See that smiley there, I have turned that color so many times since I decided to try and build my own computer and researched and shopped on the web for parts.
Not sure if thats what your doing, but I also suffered brain freeze on that same question ,hahahahahahah !
The big question remains, what color will I turn when I have everything I need and start putting it together !!!!!!!!!!!!
They are just two different ways to package an AMD Athlon processor. The important thing to note, from what I have heard, is that the Slot A design is being discontinued, and the faster Athlon's (Thunderbirds above 1G), are only in the Socket A form.

Just get Socket A. That way you can get a really cheap 800 MHz or so Duron processor and upgrade it to an Athlon/T-Bird at 1.2 GHz next year or something. But the motherboard needs to supprot both procesors first.(be sure to get a MoBo with 133/266, and 100/200 MHz FSB)
