My Opinion:
Unless you are very knowledgable about computer tech. and integration of parts. E-bay will drive a person nuts shopping for parts to build a new computer. If its new in box from manufacturer, you may save about 5-10% than if you shopped at PC parts stores on-line. Plus, on some stuff, you never know what you are really getting.( I bought 2 sticks of SIMM memory for my present comp.the guy played it as EDO memory, I recieved it, didnt know how to tell the difference, and put it in my computer. since then I downloaded SANDRA, and low and behold, SANDRA detected it as fast page memory.)So I have EDO and FPM mixed in my computer, which I guess is not good !
A guy just told me about Pricewatch.com, excellent site, it basically does pricing for you.
I guess the key is know what you want in your new computer, and basically stick with that, and go get the parts.
I am becomming updated on technology and buying at the same time, and thats alittle frustrating !
just some thoughts !!!!!!!

Ebay is a pretty cool site, I have purchased many things from there in the last 2 years and have found some advise a friend gave me before I started shopping there to be VERY helpful. BEFORE you bid on an item, ask the seller any and all questions you need to know about the product (even if they may sound stupid). A good seller will respond promptly and with and extensive answer. I have slod items on Ebay and the last thing I wanted was someone buying one of my items that wasnt actually what they needed. I actually had a seller talk me out of purchasing from him because he thought the network card would not work for what I wanted it for. Those are the kinds of sellers you look for. Dont be scared to ask if the product will work for you and tell them exactly what you need and make sure their product fits the bill before bidding. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I went on Ebay once, but ComputerMan was there trying to slod items at me, so I left.

Sorry ComputerMan, it's late and I'm punchy. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I agree though, that if you don't ask the right questions, you will never get the right answers. Ask before you leap.

I have bought software on eBay, but a nephew's bad experiences with hardware made me buy elsewhere. I always check PriceWatch first.
Some of the excellent vendors I have bought from include AllStarShop, AccessMicro, Krex, and CompuPlus.

I have actually seen some hardware items sell for more that retail on Ebay. I agree that often you won't see much of a savings on new items on Ebay but sometimes you'll find a good bargain. The essential thing is to ask questions about anything you don't understand and the good sellers will be happy to answer them. I've had better luck with Pricewatch, though.

As long as nobody is lurking around trying to slod toupees at me I don't care... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

CSO (http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com) is another good place to check for good deals, there and Pricewatch are my favorites.
