HI, Im planning on buying a laptop for school/media/gaming....I really dont know what's good for the money. Give me a list of good laptops in the price range of $800 to $1200. AMD is preffered but you can give me Intel aswell.
Also, I'm planning on getting a desktop for the same kind of thing. Same price range and CPU brand.

Would you be willing to build the desktop? That would be the best thing to do. Now, a gaming laptop costs a lot of money. More than $1200. If I were you I'd buy a cheaper laptop, and put the extra towards a better desktop. $1200 for a desktop is good budget for a gaming pc- if you don't need a monitor/ keyboard/ etc. Do you need these things?

im not very good with computers...i can put like memory/graphics/pci card hardware in a computer but i wouldn't want to mess with mother board hardrive, cpu...and so on. I have friends who could probably do it but they would probably charge me....plut i would get a warranty with a pre-made computer. I know better than to get HP or compaq...because they suck...i would know aobut compaq because im useing one right now. I don't want dell...maybe alienware but they have high prices...i dunno i just want some opinions.
OH, forget about the laptop i think i'd rather just pimp out a desktop....so make that like a 1800 dollar budget for a desktop.
thanks

Actually you do get a warranty by building it yourself. Each component will have a 1-3 year warranty on average. Much better than a pre-built warranty between 90 days and 1 year. Only downside is you will have to troublshoot and deal with each manufacturer separately. That's actually a plus depending on how you look at it. With a pre-built you can deal with one company, if you can get someone that speaks your language that is. :p
I'm not pushing you to build. I just want you to be informed about your options. Building is not for everyone. ;)

Okay, do you have a monitor, speakers, keyboard, or mouse?
