I am trying to put together a spec for an entry-level gaming pc. Anyone have recommendations for Intel vs. AMD, min. spec for video, RAM etc? Advice much appreciated.

Well, difficult to translate UK (inflated) costs to US$ but about $1000 including cheap monitor. No DVD.

Well, I just built a AMD Athalon 850 Duron system with 128 mb Ram, 32 mb(basic card) AGP, 50x CD, Sound Card, 10 GIg HD, Speakers, 15" Amptron SVGA Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Win 98 SE etc for about $899 US sale price...so I would consider the AMD Athalon / Duron as the cpu myself - Good for gaming and less than Intel and FASTER http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

OK great. This is kind of the spec I was thinking of and the Duron sounds just right. Thanks for your help.

Also, I would reccomend a Duron, between 700 sand 800 MHz, they're about $60->$90 at the moment if I'm not mistaken. A relative steal. And if you want the absolute cheapest Video card for the money, get a Geforce 2 MX, or if want to spend a bit more, you can go for a $150 Ati Radeon 32 MB DDR. Very good performance for the money. Also, you will want to make sure to get A KT133A motherboard, just do your research.
