I am currently running a Matsonic motherboard which was advertised as a 100MHz mainboard. It has two possibilities for processors, a Slot 1 and a Socket 370. Little did I know that only the Slot 1 had the 100MHz bus speed. The 370 side of it is only 66MHz. I at the same time purchased a Celeron 400 chip which was for a 370 socket. If I get the PPGA to Slot 1 adapter and put it in the Slot 1, should I get 100MHz bus speed performance?

Yes, no, maybe.....

Celerons have the multiplier locked so putting it a 100MHz bus speed MOBO automatically overclocks it, so then you have heat and voltage issues to contend with.

To ME or NOT to ME....

Thanks for the reply,mjc

Ok, there are some Celerons that advertise at 100MHz (bus speed) and some that dont say at all, i am wondering which mine is. It is 400MHz chip. Does anyone know of a website that could give me specs on my cpu?

You've got a 66MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) Celeron, supa_dre. Only the recently released 800MHz Celeron has the 100MHz FSB.

Certain motherboards allow running the memory bus at +/-33MHz from the system bus (FSB). This is not overclocking (the PCI bus remains at the standard 33MHz), but does enable the full use of PC100 memory for a standard Celeron. (Maybe not the full potential; I'm a little hazy about bus relationships.)

Hey, thanks for the responses!!

Especially kenja for that link. I just learned some stuff from that site. I actually tried(before) to put an adapter in my slot 1 to accommodate my 370 celeron, but my power supply was in the way when i went to reassemble. Its a damn good thing that it was too, because I just discovered from the site that i could have damaged something had I placed that 66mhz chip on to a 100mhz bus.
