View Full Version : Suddenly No Sound after Hard Drive upgrade
Hi,
I just recently replaced my hard drive and re-installed everything from scratch(including WindowsXP Home). The only thing I can't get working is my sound.
I have an ASUS P4S533-MX (X-Series) motherboard that has soundcard built-in. And it was working fine before the upgrade of hard drive. Now, nothing recognizes it.
I tried to download the SoundMax driver from the ASUS website. But I am getting errorred-out and it doesn't install.
Any advice please?

Do you have the motherboard driver disk supplied with the motherboard? It should have the audio drivers on it...
Can't find it. That's why I tried to download it from ASUS.

Here is the link to your drivers: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/ad1888/WDM_3665.zip
Download and try to install them. Tell us if it works.
It seems these drivers are for Windows2000. I have WindowsXP.
Is it the same drivers?

These drivers are for WXP, believe me ;)
Download, try to install them, and tell us...
Nothing's happening.
I double-clicked (tried to open) Install program in the W2k_XP folder and nothing happened.
What do I do?
I only need the sound driver.

No double click... go to "administrador de dispositivos" (sorry, i don't know what's in english version), then go to the properties of sound card, controller, update controller from location, select the folder, and then ok.
Additionally, in the properties page, probably will show some message of error which can help to solve the problem.
Note: The installer is for W2000.
Yes Algodritmo,
Sometimes I wonder about myself. That's exactly what I figured out...and it worked :)
I came back to report back and found that you suggested exactly that.
I don't play too much in the hardware department of the computer, so sometimes I just get easily confused.
I am learning ;)
But thanks. I am listening to music right now :D
Have a great evening, Sir.
