I'm trying to get my laptop w/XP pro up to speed security-wise but IE always tries to connect using dial-up.
I have tried inetwiz and also going to Internet Properties and setting up a new connection. Each wizard claims to be successful but even trying a reboot afterwards, I get a 'Cannot connect offline, would you like to connect using your modem (or similar)?'
I have done Trend Micro's free scan and it indicates security vulnerabilities with various Windows programs such as WordPad and other code vulnerable weak spots. Hence my desire to update Windows. I want to do this while home on a weekend where broadband is available because during the week I only have 48kbps dial-up att.
The laptop is (another) Toshiba Tecra 8200 with built in LAN and 56k modem.
Anyone have an idea or two how (I don't really care why :o ) to get IE to connect via LAN? :(
(I lied, I really do care... ;) )
