Ok, i've finally gotten around to running my computer through 3dmark 03 to 06.

Here are my scores:

3DMark 06: 4065 3DMarks

3DMark 05: 8470 3DMarks

3DMark 03: 16247 3DMarks

So anyways, what does anyone else have?

Yes, I know that there have been other threads for 3DMark, but not for 3 versions at once!

Here is what I got a few weeks ago at stock speeds, but I haven't run 06' or either one with the card OC'ed yet.

AMD64 3000+ - eVGA 6800GS CO factory OC'ed at 490/1100MHz - 2GB DDR400.

05' - 5689
03' - 12210

3DMark 05: 7502
3DMark 06: 4998
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I love my new comp

So nerd...how the heck did I pull off more than 3x your score in '06??? I may have a faster proc, but you have a 1900 OC'ed on water! wtf?

I don't think you did.. you scored around 900 points more! His scores are just ordered differentlyfrom your own ;-).

What do you mean?

You:
3DMark 03: 16315
3DMark 05: 7502
3DMark 06: 4998

Me:
3DMark 06: 4065 3DMarks
3DMark 05: 8470 3DMarks
3DMark 03: 16247 3DMarks

The problem with 3Dmark is that it is very CPU dependant. lol. Is an idea for comparing raw power of computers, but not for the gaming power of computers. For example. My score is brought down cuz I have a slower CPU (which means lower CPU score) my overall score is affected. Now in games, that doesn't matter as much. For example, in BF2 I average 300-360 fps. But in UT2004, I average 230-300ish fps. UT2004 is an older game and is more CPU dependant (therefore is slower), where BF2 is not as CPU dependant and is faster. Anyways, in June I plan to upgrade my mobo, ram and CPU to the new AM2 socket (with ddr2) and I plan to get a Crossfire mobo and get the x1900crossfire edition. Then its TEH BOOYANESS!

oh...I was looking at madad. sorry. still, this computer is indisposable. I am always the first one in on the Counter Strike maps.

You have a "slower" CPU??? your proc is the same as mine 'cept for the double L2 cache. Unless you haven't overclocked...I'm pushing 2600 and 215 for the RAM :D
Either way, you have a BEASTLY graphics card, and I can't ever see my system being that good, even if I get 4G of RAM and SLI with another 7800GT. Like that'll ever happen...

You have a "slower" CPU??? Yup I havn't OCed it yet.... Not that I need to as I have no problems with games/cad. I'm pushing 2600 and 215 for the RAM hehe good job with that.

Either way, you have a BEASTLY graphics card, and I can't ever see my system being that good, even if I get 4G of RAM and SLI with another 7800GT. Well its not like u don't have a sweet system urself lol. As long as the system doesn't lag and looks good... thats all that really counts! And you have a much better sound system than me.

paul_

The sound system is something of a personal obsession. I hate bad quality sound, so I always shoot for the moon when it comes to headphones, soundcards, speakers, etc. My Sony surround sound plus my M-Audio soundcard were probably the best $300 I've spent (other than my 7800GT lol). You could call me an audiophile, but that wouldn't be fair to the real ones. I've far too little money! And if I did, I'd probably spend it on other auditory experiences like, say, a magnaflow for the MINI Cooper

Speaking of the MINI, I need to go get my permit :D wish me luck!

Hehe, i like sound as well.... but i'm a working student and my funds are limited, as is the level of noise my neighbours will take! So i'm currently with a 5.1 logitech system.

permit acquired

Due to a sudden increase in funding, I am now getting sound-activated CCFLs, better LED fans, cool little plug 'n play LEDs for molex connectors, and copper RAMsinks for anything and everything else that generates heat. Any other suggestions?

permit acquired hehe nice! What colour is your case? Depending on the colour look at one of these: http://www.xoxide.com/vl-system-lis-2-black.html

If you reallly want to get "tricked out" have a look at these:

http://www.xoxide.com/cool-it-usb-beverage-cooler.html

http://www.xoxide.com/xray1.html

BTW when putting it your fans, make sure to have a positive pressure. Helps with keeping dust from getting in from random places.

I am probably gonna get one of these:
http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=82990BK

pretty damn cool, I'll have the temp guage on the HSF, the volt guage on the CPU (if I can) and a friggin' remote control!!!

Saw those 2 bottom ones. I don't like to drink by a supercomputer for risk of spilling (for the record there's a half-full sprite can 3 inches from my computer) so I wouldn't get the drink chiller, and my mom would flip if she saw a cigarrette lighter in my computer  (all my friends smoke *ahem*) but there will be better things...

Hehe, yup thats what I got, its really awesome!

About spilling drinks. I got my keyboard vacuumed packed in a rubbery silicone thingie (cost about $50ish canadian), so I don't have to be as concerned about it.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? And are you in the UK or the US?

paul_

I'm in the US, and 16. Yep, I said it. 16. lol

ya it is, 'specially when you've got a beast of a computer quietly whooshing next to you allowing you to game like never before...lol

Final buy list:
AR Coax cable
"whoopass" badge
"warning: overclocked" badge
Dual 4" CCFL
Dual 12" CCFL
Sound Activator module
Logisys remote multifunction panel
Coolermaster 120mm LED fan
Blue wire sleeving kit
Molex LED lights

Any suggestions? I'm thinking 2 CCFLs on the regular inverter, and 2 to the sound activator. I can do that, right?

paul_
03-27-2006, 03:40 AM
awww CRAP... I discharged a big static shock off my finger and out went the LEDs in the front panel... suggestions? I can't believe that just happened...

madad2005
03-27-2006, 09:12 AM
Please tell us you haven't fried anything else? I don't there is much you can do. Sounds like something has been fried. Add an anti-static wristband to that list?

Ya, LEDs are gonna have to be replaced.

Yes you should be able to.

Post a pic of ur system when ur dome!

OK. The lights came back on for some reason, I have fried nothing, and I am not wearing fleece sweatpants as much :D . My computer made it safely to school (thru baggage check, no less) and I have a beautiful new AG Neovo 19" LCD!!! I can finally run at a good res, and I no longer have to lean forward to game! My parts are coming, hopefully by the end of the week or next monday. I am getting a kit where I will have a 4" and a 12" CCFL (blue) going into a sound controller (oohs and aahs galore). I am also getting that really cool logisys panel with the remote, and a badge saying, "WARNING: Overclocked" :p

Speaking of which, if I can make another bootable CD of memtest, I may finally drop my RAM down to 266 speed and start tightening timings. I will probably end up speeding the proc up somewhere along the process

My computer is starting to toe a line in my mind... Something about "unbelieveable"... :p ;)

Do you run memtest from a cd or just in windoze? If you REALLY fancy a challenge, buy Oblivion, install it, and see if you can get it running stable for a few hours say...

paul_

Oblivion??? I use memtest using a bootable CD, which is why my CD drive is always first on my BIOS boot list. Im'a download it later today.

Haha, I don't think that is possible! (At least, not until a patch comes out) The longest I ran Oblivion without crashing was about 2 1/2 hrs.

WTF is oblivion??? Is the program just insanely buggy or is it made to crash the **** outta your computer? I'll google...

With 3DMark 06, I scored 4085 on the system in my sig, on all stock settings.

That's almost on par with our (not a nerd's and mine). Not bad. Still, "almost" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades :D

Anyway, not a bad computer. Welcome to the X2 crowd. I commend your choice of that WD 250G HDD. I have the same. I hope that you got a better 7800GT core than I did, mine sux bigtime. The vRAM is fine, but the GPU is pathetic. I can only overclock about 10 MHz, and then I get artifacts.

Anyone interested in my old eMachines? It is a T6520, 1GB RAM, 200GB HDD, Athlon64 3400+, and an upgraded Sapphire Radeon X700PRO. Modifications: The vid card and a very quiet HSF for the proc. Comes with its OEM Keyboard and 15" LCD, and a generic optical mouse (old one died). ~300 OBO

P.S. am I allowed to do this?

00ps... Well, I'm done advertising for it anyway. Thanks, Mike. Today/ this weekend is the time for my bit of overclocking craziness. Today will most likely be pure benchmarking, then tomorrow I will start in BIOS.

Hehe... OCing is alot of fun. Just remember that some errors take alot of stress to get at. Try running PRIME95 (a CPU and memory stresser), SETI and 3dmark 06 at the same time!

paul_
04-01-2006, 09:41 AM
Oh, I can do better than that. I use 2 instances of Prime95 (yay dual core) and make a custom torture test using default settings, but using 95% of available RAM (2 gigs, 950MB per instance). I actually got an error recently, so it looks about time to crank the vCore a bit (yes, I know the limit, and it's about 1.5). The RAM will also get a voltage boost, to ~2.9v. Hopefully it will run safely at that voltage. Also, I have HTT at AUTO. Bad move? Should I be setting it manually?

-P

i an not a nerd
04-01-2006, 10:31 AM
Hmm HTT should be fine at auto. If you are getting alot of errors, manually set it to something lower than the default (x16).

paul_
04-01-2006, 10:42 AM
X16 is default??? I get X1-X5 as options. Maybe I'll just keep it on auto...

oh yeah... I knew there was an X16 somewhere...
