Hi all,

I intend to buy a new system with the following specs:
Abit KT7A Raid
TB 1 GHz socket A
2 x 256 Mb Ram - 133 mhz
ibm gxp75 - 45 gb
Hercules 3d prophet II - GTS 64 mb
iiyama A902MT (19")
pioneer dvd slot in (16x)
sounblaster live player 5.1
CL Desktop Theater 5.1 DTT2200

What do you think? Should I change anything? I don't want the geforce ultra, because it costs too much for the boost in performance.

Greets --

I assume didn't want to bother us with the little details like case, cpu cooler, etc http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

Why Raid? -- there have been a couple of threads lately on these forums discussing Raid. From my recollection, most people have no need for it.

I was thinking of a Thermaltake Superchrome orb. Any good?
I can otherwise get a Globalwin Fop32 Socket A or a Globalwin Fop38 7000Rpm Socket A .

The case wil be a 'normal' Aopen Maxi Tower Design HQ08 Low Noise ATX.
You're right about the RAID. I'm considering to take the regulare KT7A...

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to which cooler is better, just wanted to make sure you weren't overlooking anything -- like a second ide cable or that little cable that goes from the CD to the sound card -- cause I've made that mistake. Luckily, I had an old 486 that I could scavange, but my second ide cable is only 40 connector, instead of 80 connector, and I don't think that will do ata 100 -- only a 24x4x4 cdr on the channel right now, but if I ever upgrade to an ata100 device, I will need a different ribbon cable.

Cheers --

Why ABIT? There are much better boards out there.. I am running a Tyan Tiger 180 (I think that's the correct model) dual processor motherboard. Now, I know most people are not looking for a dual proc. mb, but they do manufacture other boards which are single. I know 2 other people with this same board, never had a problem with it.. and besides, Dual 800's are just nice http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Dual CPU's are great if you're running NT or win 2000, but win 98 doesn't really take advantage of the dual CPU setup, so it's really a waste of money. And don't even think about running ME...

Abit boards have a good reputation, nothing wrong with using the Abit...I like Tyans too, they do make very good boards.

I just dislike the fact the ABIT has integrated controller cards.. Ickie. Anything integrated is well.. I let you fill in the blank. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Abit also makes non-integrated boards, as most companies do, you just have to check before buying. They've been making boards since integrated was a rare occurrence, seen only in Packard Bells and Compaqs. I don't think I've seen any integrated Tyans, but I haven't looked at specs on many lately.

Well I've just changed my system anyway. I'm going for an Asus A7V KT133A with a 1.2 gb 266 FSB athlon.
Does anyone know of a review of the MSI 815 geforce 2 gts pro 64. Is it a good card? How is it compared to the hercules pro?
