I'm still working' on getting a final 'proposal' if you will, for my friend's Project PC. But I was wondering a couple of things about monitors...

The first question?...

1)How does Viewsonic rate in the world monitors?
2)How about the Viewsonic Viewsonic GS815 21" in particular?
3)Where can I find info regarding picture quality? (pitch, etc)

One thing he is sure about... He wants a 21" or larger monitor. And he wants a good one. Personally, I can't see paying a grand (give or take a hundred bucks) for such a monitor when the next size down ( Viewsonic GS790 19" )is around $400-$450 Viewsonic GS790 19" Color Monitor. Am I missing something? That's an awfully big price difference for what?... One more inch of visibility.

Once again... And direction you folks could provide would be a great help.

Hi,

I have two 17" ViewSonic monitors, both of which cost me around two hundred dollars each, give or take. (The second one was cheaper than the first one) I have no experience with the larger monitors, but seems to me if you just do a search on Viewsonic GS815, +consumer, +reviews, +forums, or something to that effect, you should find something.

I agree, the price of $1k is not necessary. I have had no problems whatsoever with my ViewSonics and I believe they are every bit as good as my other, more costly, 17" Sony Trinitron Multiscan 200PS monitor.

In my book, ViewSonics offer affordable, yet quality performance and picture. Maybe the guy should save a few hundred and take a nice vacation instead. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You might try www.viewsonic.com (http://www.viewsonic.com) for the information on the monitor that you seek. You might also find user reviews on their website.

One thing to keep in mind when you are discussing monitors with your friend is that a 21" wil have more problems with magnetic interference than a 19". For the relatively small increase in viewable are they add a much larger footprint. Also try to stay away from a Trinitron monitot - they have support wires that are visible on screen (some people find them very objectionable and even try to "fix" their screen)

This site www.dansdata.com (http://www.dansdata.com) explained monitors in great detail and talks about the diff between DPI, AGP and LCD screens. I like shadow masking as opposed to aperture grille pitch (Viewsonic et al). I picked up the Samsung Syncmaster 753 DF 17" (955 DF is the 19"). I am impressed with it.
