Hi all,

I have a Win2k03 Server on a Netgear wireless/wired router connected via cat5 (ie not wireless) and i can access it from the net, however after several hours it will drop out and I cannot access it from the net and have to connect to another machine (attached to the Router) and then connect through it via RDC. Can anyone tell or suggest why this server keeps dropping off (nb it has crashed in the past, but most the time it doesnt and I usually just reconnect going the back way in).
Also not there are no ISA server setup, or DHCP issuing on the machine. It acts as a DC, FileSrv, and IIS - when it is online lol :P
CHeers,
Olie

On the server you are having issues with go to Start/Admin tool/ Terminal Services Config. Right click Connections and Properties. On the Sessions tab make sure your disconnected time is not set to low and may want to bump the disconnected sessions time. Active session limit is never, What could be happening is that the session is timed out and on the server your screen saver is requiring a username and password to unlock the screen after a certain amount of time. the session is locked out and you cannot reconnect. I would bump the idle limit past two hours and make sure the screen saver password is set to two hours.

On the server settings it may be a good idea to set the Restric each user to one session to No.

Hey THanks for your messages. I have had a look at the TS config and adjusted them, however we are not using TS, but rather VNC for remote control. So it may be something else causing it...
Cheers for that info though,
Olie

Why use VNC for a 2003 server when you have remote desktop built in? VNC is slow and quirky.
