Hi, I'm a newbie and would like to build my own computers.
I was reading in the How to Build A Computer section,
and it said for AMD processors, you need an AMD approved power supply.
Could you tell me what power supply I would need for something like a
AMD Sempron 64 2800+ Palermo?
Thanks

Oh, those stupid "approved" PSU labels? They're more or less useless. I've never found them to be useful because I've seen so-called "AMD approved" or "Intel P4 approved" power supplies that I wouldn't trust to power my desk lamp!

Basically what you need is a high-quality PSU from a leading manufacturer like: Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, etc. Then you need to make sure it's an ATX 12V v2.0/2.01 PSU, mostly recognizable by a 24-pin main power connector (or 20+4-pin) and two +12V rails (labled as "12V1" and "12V2"). Then you need to avoid those "modular" power supplies that have detachable power cables. If you follow all of these guidelines, you should come up with an excellent PSU to use, like this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153026).

I warn you, though. High quality PSU's are in the $60-120 range for 400-600W of power. They aren't cheap, but you don't want to skimp on your PSU, either! It powers all of your parts and you don't want a cr@ppy one that might fry them (yes it has happened). Those cheap PSU's that come bundled with a $30 case or cost $9.99 after rebates should be avoided like the plague! Like I said, I wouldn't trust those things to power my desk lamp!
