View Full Version : Luck as a PSU purchasing principle?

Last year I needed a power supply for my printer, and as luck would have it the printer itself went on sale for about half the price of the power supply alone.

Now I'm looking for a PSU and as luck would have it the Antec 350w Smart Power PSU I was looking at (among others) comes along in an Antec 1650 tower and, thanks to a fairly hefty rebate, costing little more than half the price of the PSU by itself.

Now, I'm a bulldog when it comes to getting my rebates, so there's no downside there. But I can't quite believe there isn't a downside--'cause my luck doesn't usually go this way. Can someone find me enough of a downside that I'd consider spending $75+ for another 50-100w instead of the $29.99 I'm about ready to drop for 350w and a brand new case.

I'd be very weary of the deal. I paid about twice that for the same psu alone. I'm not saying the deal isn't real, I'd just look real careful.

Thanks, jc, but it's a major retail chain here as opposed to online--in fact, they do no online sales. I take it off the shelf, pay and take it home. I get the rebate and it's a great deal (and I haven't even had to be a bulldog about getting the rebates so far). Got a Samsung laser printer there for $47, a free set of Creative speakers, and a Sony DD DVD writer + Nero and 10 music downloads for $39. Would've gotten a 250G Hitachi HD for $49 if they hadn't sold out already.

I was more looking for possible downside with the PSU itself. Has that PSU worked out okay for you?
