First, I need to give some background.
I have not had any formal training in computers, I am in construction, where you never say you can not do that.
I have been in computers for a little over 2 years.
Windows 98se was my first system. I am a heavy user and push a system to the limits just to see what I can and can not do. Windows 98se could not handle my abuse.
Winn 2K has. I have not crashed 2K yet and am still trying.
Xp, I love and agree with you sea, o/s of the future. I like the colors and grafics so much that I upgraded my vidio card just for XP.
The sounds are better.
It is eazier on the eyes then 98se and 2K.
I find it eazier to work with and do what I want. I think it is eazier to find what you want and use.
I am tranfering all my data to XP and making it my main o/s. Yes I had to update some drivers, but no biggie.
Sea this is a big thanks to you and everyone at the PC Guide who have made me a geek. And yes I have the PC Guide on disk, which I recommend to all. Yoda XP saved windows!
P.S. Xp picked up my network of 5 computers and internet sharing, I did not have to do any setup at all. I run 98SE,Win 2K, XP, and linux 8.1 on my computer without any problems.

One day I will be a pro, Thanks Andy

andy- I have been reading some of your posts (even in threads that I'm not actually participating in) and while you are patently humble you are a "Pro" in my book, I have learned from you as well.

yep- I like XP a LOT, I too was tired of the same old thing with win98se, even though I liked it, this OS is so much more stable and so much more to learn with it. That's probably the best aspect of winXP for me.

I have to agree with you on this one. Andy is a credit and a valuable asset to the Board
Also XP is an improvement
I have only booted into 98 maybe twice in the past month on this dual boot system

BUT
Windows XP is starting to look more and more like a patch work O/S
13 updates for far. And it still needs more.

I for one will be glad when they (MS) release a Service Pack for it.
Due in the 3rd quarter of this year.
I hate to think about doing a reinstall any time soon on a few of the systems I am supporting.
They have Dial-up connections http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Rick- had you noticed that all of the 'updates' do not apply to evey individual machine?

most are for 'fixes' to problems I have never encountered.

The only updates I get are the criticle security ones and then only if they aply to me.

Yes I noticed it.
Unfortunately the people I have been supporting systems for Don’t even look at that.
They just see the Critical and download it..

To date I have only had to remove one update from 2 systems. (The one that caused the IE bug)
Fix one create another http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif You have to love Tech support and Updates..

Rick- as admin using group policy edit you could disallow individual users even with admin status from getting any updates at all.

(as long as you don't tell them how to use gpedit.msc)
