Hi everybody,

I have a notebook Dell Latitude C600 and I need (for specific reason) to install W98 Second Edition as OS.
The problem is that , after installation, the cooling fan is working all the time, that is rather uncomfortable.
Could anyone help me?
Please note that with W2000 it works OK, the fan is working now and then. But I need W98 as OS.
Thank you!

Adrian

I don't think Windows (any version) has any specific controls for the fans. As it is a laptop I might try looking into the power saving and CPU throttling functions. Also unless it gets hot to the touch I wouldn't necessarily worry about the fan not always running. To conserve battery power it might just be kicking on when it gets hot, and off when it is cooler.

Erik,
My problem is that the fan does not stop.
Here is the BIOS setting, could you see something must be set here ?

Thank you.

Win 98 is worse on memory utilization than 2000 Pro. The fan may be running because the CPU is being worked, it may be important for it to be running to keep it cool enough.
Just my opinion.

PrntRhd,

It is possible, because the fan starts few minutes after the OS is running.
Does that mean that the CPU is working under W98 hardly than other OS?
I think that switching on/off is related only to the CPU temperature. Am I wrong?
Unfortunately W98 is so obsolete and seems nobody is concerning of.
Thank you.
