Hello, and welcome to The PC Guide Forums!

I bought a Linksys WRT54GS router last Wednesday and I like it so far. I bought it at Best Buy (walk in store) for $69.99 + $5.42 tax = $75.41 :( Newegg has it for $74.99 with free shipping and a $15.00 mail in rebate (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124136). In the specs at Newegg they say it doesn't have WPA/WPA2 but it does have WPA and WPA2

I have 2 PCs and my Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem hooked to it with Cat 5 Ethernet cable and my HP Deskjet 6980 via wireless that is built into the printer. Next week I will have a HP NX9600 laptop (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834147109) to add to the wireless connections. The laptop and printer were the reason I bought the router, and it looks cool sitting on top of the matching cable modem

Setup was very easy and step by step instructions are included on the CD that comes with it along with product registration.

If you have a dynamic IP installation is as easy as plugging in Ethernet cables for wired connections, and pushing the Secure Easy Setup (Cisco Systems logo) button on the front of the router, and the wireless connection button on the device that needs a connection. If you have a static IP the IP and DNS info from your ISP will need to be entered the in routers setup page and the PCs will need the TCP/IP properties set to obtain IP addresses automatically.

I've been using netgear router and wireless adapters for about a year now and have had no trouble at all with them. Set up in five minutes without a hitch.

LG;)

I have had a Linksys router for almost three years without problems. I also more recently have a Netgear Gigabit switch and D-Link wireless router, both have been problem free, easy to setup and have worked together just fine.

One word...Linksys

WRT54G is good enough for anything home-based. Your internet speeds will be imited to those provided by your ISP and will be MUCH lower than either the WRT54G or WRT54GS capabilities. I doubt most home users need the "Speed Booster" capabilities of the WRT54GS...but then again....didn't Bill Gates once say, "Nobody will ever need more than 640K of RAM."?

Sorry this is off topic, but I happened upon Bill Gates' home page the other day.

From a speech at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference 2005.
I've tried to do this before but this time I'll do it very clearly. I did not say that 640k of memory should be enough for anybody. http://www.microsoft.com/billgates/speeches/2005/04-25WinHec05.asp

I just thought it was interesting. :p
