We will need more advice to help you. You say you have everything setup, but what does that mean?

How many PCs do you have, and what OS are they running?
What type of network equipment are you using?
Wired or wireless?
How have you connected in your broadband modem (if any)?

What kind of modem is this, a cable or DSL modem provided by your ISP?

Also are you trying to connect more than one PC to the internet using the same modem?

How are you connecting the modem to the PC, usually for broadband it will be either an RJ-45 (looks like a big phone plug) or USB. USB will require drivers, RJ-45 doesn't.

Is English your first language? If it is please try to write in clear concise sentences. If not, we will bear with you.

You are attempting to attach your laptop to a DSL modem via router?

If this is correct please supply:

1) Name and model of modem.
2) Name and model of router.
3) Type of DSL connection. Direct connection or PPPoE.
4) Static or dynamic IP address.

Are you sure you are using a patch cable and NOT a crossover cable?

As I understand it you are trying to use one DSL modem to conenct two computers to the internet without any extra equipment. You are physically moving the modem from one PC to the other and connecting it at the PC you want to connect to the internet. Is that right?

If so it might just be that the modem is setup for PC one to connect to the internet. It is possible for your ISP to allow only ONE PC to use the modem based on the MAC address of the network card.

If you are trying to do this without a router your best bet would be to buy a router. It will make things much easier.

the modem can switch from different pcs because i used to switch them when i lived in the house. the problem is when i connect the cable from the dsl modem to the laptop it doesnt recoginize it. and when i go to the connection i created with the username and password it doesnt connect because i dont have a Local area connection. when i connect the modem to my other computer it connects without a problem
here is a picture of the item im talking about. sorry about all the confusion

What you are trying to do makes no sense. You need to get a router that will allow multiple PC's to connect to your DSL modem. The answer as to why the lap-top won't connect could be legion. Have you disabled the windows firewall or other software firewalls?
