Usb ports quit

4 onboard and 2 front-- sony VAIO-- win xp sp2
All quit at same time- device manager shows hardware and all working. Tried driver update- nothing- driver rollback- nothing restore-system to 2 days prior- still nothing. It should not be hardware issue since front and rear are both dead not just one side. Any other advise?

Do the USB devices that are connected to the ports work on another system?

Yes- printer, mass storage device, and USB mouse

There may be a driver conflict. See if doing a clean boot helps to find the cause:

If no luck with a clean boot, then see if doing a Windows XP repair install helps. You'll lose all restore points, and have to reinstall all XP updates afterwards.

If still no good, then consider doing a reformat and a clean Windows reinstall.

If that does not work, then there's probably a hardware problem, and suggest installing a PCI USB controller card.
