Loud fan..

I'm slowly learning about my pc. I replaced one of the fans on the motherboard to quiet the system down. I want to replace the fan located behind the cd drives in the box that I do not know what is called. This fan seems to be sodered to a chip... It seems to be loud, can I replace it with a quiet fan? :confused:

It sounds like the power supply fan to me. If that is the case your best bet would probably be to look into a speciality power supply that is designed to run quietly. Messing around inside a PSU when you are not sure about what you are doing sounds like an invitation for trouble to me.

I would go with what Erik said and buy a new PSU that is designed to run quietly if it really bothers you.

Power supplies are not something you want to go fiddling around inside of unless you know what you are doing. A lot of dangerous voltages in there. ;)
