Hello-

Been having a rather annoying problem as of late.

Recently when playing either WoW or SWG (the only MMORPG'S I have) I've been experiencing control problems. I use the arrow keys to move my character around. What has been happening is that when I push the up arrow key, he starts running. If I try to move left or right though, there's no response and he just keeps running. If I take my finger off the key, he still continues to run for a few moments. Then he finally stops and the screen will start wildly spinning either left or right (or both) for upwards of 20 seconds.

I thought that maybe it was the arrow keys sticking, so I tried to use the A S D W keys to move and I'm experiencing the same problems. Then I thought that it could be my NIC card, so I took it out and used my mobo's onboard connection. The issue was still there. We were in the process of switching from Broadband to DSL (totally unrelated to this- just for pricing issues) and I was hopeful that this would solve the problem, but unfortunately it didn't.

I upgraded my graphic card's drivers and that didn't not help, nor did rolling back to an older set. I even thought that maybe the USB port where my keyboard is connected was shoddy and switched, but I'm still having the issues.

It really seems like a lag issue, but since it's occuring in both games (and it started on exactly the same night) I'm thinking it's something on my end. My friends that have similar (or even lesser) setups than I have are not experiencing any problems what so ever. I have other non online games and those are operating with no problems at all. Any thoughts?

My system specs:
Biostar M7NCD mobo
Athlon AMD 2Ghz processor
Seagate 80GB HD
1 gig corsair ram (DDR PC3200 333mhz)
ATI Radeon x700pro 256mb gfx card
Windows XP Home SP2

Update- I installed some older ram that I used a few months ago that I knew for a fact worked, and still had this issue. I can rule out the Ram I guess.

What keyboard are you using? Were there any other changes to your system the night you first experienced this?

I'm using a Sony USB keyboard. I don't think it's the keyboard's problem as every way to control (a w s d keys, arrow keys, number pad keys and mouse alone) results in the same issues.

I think it's a mix between the drivers/graphics card/overall lag. The only change I had made prior to the start of all this was updating my graphics drivers. I wiped the drivers clean and reinstalled the drivers off the gfx card's disk. I'm still having the problem, but it's no where near as bad now. The games are playable now atleast, it's just a minor annoyance.

I have this problem quite often, it seems with e that it is usually my key "sticking" not physically, but within software. It's like the game is not recognizing the keyup. Usually tapping the suspect key (e.g. if the screen is spinning left, i hit leftarrow) once will quit the rotation for me.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot too. I was able to play for several hours last night with minimal problems, but there were a few instances where the key would 'stick'. I'll try your solution if I have further issues tonight. Thanks!

If it's a USB keyboard, try unplugging it while Windows is running and plugging it back in. Also, many keyboards have problems with certain 3-key combos pressed at the same time, while other cheapo keyboards won't accept input at all from 3 or more keys pressed at the same time.
