i was wondering if i use my pata hard drive and get a converter to sata will i have the speed of an sata hard drive?

No. The IDE drive itself is only capable of a certain speed. It just allows you to hook up an IDE drive to an SATA port if you happen to need to do that.

jlreich was right. Nothing will happen in terms of speed. because it is just a converter of IDE to SATA. but it will organize the cables inside your system and the air inside your system will flow smoothly.

I try to avoid converters if I can. They have a tendency to actually slow things down due to complexity and translation issues. If you have an IDE device, leave it as IDE unless you absolutely need to change it.
