Laptop graphics

I am shortly going to buy a laptop, but need advice on the graphics cards they contain, Ati has a range of mobility cards called x300, x700 etc.

Does the performance of these cards run in order, the higher the number the better the card i.e, is a x800 better than a x700 and x300, and is a x1400 better than a x1300 and so on.

Yes. That is how it is for both ATI and nVidia's cards. When purchasing a laptop, graphics are usually the one area that is skimped on. What Make/model are you looking at?
