I've been having some computer problems and i pin pointed it to my VGA

i thought my computer was dead
but i backed everything up and formatted my hard drive
everything is working
but when i goto install the drivers for my MSI nVidia card
my computwer will restart and right after the XP loading screen it will show a very quick blue screen with a bunch of writing then restart and continue restarting

i have tried 2 sets of drivers
one off the nVidia site and the one that came with the video card
can anyone offer any insight to why this might happen?

If you want to see what those error messages say, right click on the my computer icon on your desktop -> properties -> click on advanced tab -> look for startup and recovery, click on settings -> go down to system failure and uncheck automatically restart.

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Right-click My Computer> Properties> Advanced >
Startup and Recovery> Uncheck "Automatically restart

Let us know what the exact error message is...

Let me guess...

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL?

Try booting in Safe Mode and see if that works. If so, there's a driver problem somewhere. Could be related to system/video BIOS shadowing options or even the order of driver installation. Give us some more specs about your system.

crisisred -- I had the same type of problem with my computer a little while ago. Constant BSOD, with those weird message like the one saphalline mentioned. Anyway, it turned out my RAM was faulty. I never actually found out what was wrong with it, but I bought a new stick and I have never seen a BSOD ever since.

Hope that helps!

Good point. MemTest86 that RAM and see if it comes up with any errors. You can disconnect the drives for that test.
