Symantec had a bad update that identified AOL as a security threat causing users to have internet access disabled, they did correct it by pushing out a new update in a few hours but it could be tough to explain to AOL users how to correct it with no connection available:

Symantec advises users who are unable to go online because of the issue to disable their Norton software, connect to the Internet and immediately download updated definition files.
