I am trying to limit the access my VPN network has to all the shared folders on the server. I would like my local area network to have access to all the folders but i would like the VPN to only have access to one folder. The problem i am running into is that the VPN has access to all the folders and so when i try and limit the VPN then the local network also gets limited. Is there a way to set rights just for the VPN that will be different then the rights for the local network in the home?

Use different logins for the VPN connection than the local connection. Use NTFS permissions to limit the VPN user/s to the folder you want. If you have many users add all the users to a Group and add the group to the NTFS permissions tab on the folder.

So reading this if my harddrive was formatted FAt-32 then i cannot seperate the 2 ways of access, that being the VPN, and the other being the local Network?

Acutally i just looked and it was NTFS but it still seems to only work for all or nothing. I created 2 groups gave one group full access and denyied for the other group and when trying with the local network i get denied also even though i was in a different group. The only thing that confusses me about this, is that with being on the same local network i dont have to login to the other computer as does the VPN connection when connecting to that computer. Any suggestions?

Deny takes precedence. If you are in a group that has deny and a group that has allow, you have deny permissions. Deny overrules other permissions.

I have the users in different groups, i have 1 group called limit with one user and i gave that group deny access, and i have another group called allowed with one user and i gave them full rights.. But for some reason the group called allowed also gets denied.
