View Full Version : Anti-virus Software
I'm looking for an anti-virus program, it needs to have the following features:
Stand alone
DOS level functionality
Fit on a single floppy
Updateable
Low cost
Am I asking too much?
I use McAfee on my own machine but I'm looking for something that is portable (so I can take it to father-in-law's, mom's or where ever I need it)

InnoculateIt is what I use. It's free and you get free updates. If you want to take a look at it, you can go here. http://antivirus.cai.com/ You can get a free scan also here. http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_pcc.asp I have no idea what you're talking about with the DOS level functionality tho.

Works in DOS, outside of Windows. The McAfee makes a boot disk so it can be used on any machine that has a floppy drive.
Oh, before anyone suggests it, the latest version of F-prot DOES NOTfit on a floppy......AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
That's why I'm looking for something else.

I've been using Trend Micro Housecall for about a year now on ANY machine that can log on the internet.......beats anything I've seen except Norton Antivirus 2001 which probably doesnt have a bootable disk ver.

Oh contrar Randy...I use NAV SystemWorks 2001 and when you create your rescue disks it includes a bootable disk to do your clean up work in dos. Of course this is 7 disks we're talking about though...sorry MJC no reccomendations here.

Try SimTel (http://www.simtel.net/) very good list of shareware/freeware, unfortunately winfiles is now no longer in existence, that was a very good site too. Sure gonna miss winfiles...

I found a utility that creates a bootable disk using one of several different anti-virus programs, it takes and makes a bootable disk then puts ramdrive on it and then the AV program. It is AVDisk (http://members.nbci.com/avdisk/).

Do Vulcans even have to debug?
Out of all those (that I've had experience with) I would have to choose innoculate as my favorite. Try them and make your own decisions however.

mjc: Sorry, I forgot about this one, if you'll check Boot Disk (http://www.bootdisk.com) you'll find F-Prot v3.08 for 1.44MB floppy. Scroll down to the antivirus links.
