?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????
The IP address is assigned by the cable modem. The same IP address that goes directly to your PC when you are hooked directly to the modem is assigned to the router. The router then assigns your PC an IP address in the 192.168.1.XXX range and keeps track of traffic.
Please explain why you need to do what you want to do?

Ok when i have my internet through my router it gives me an ip when i look on a site i.e. whatsmyip.com it gives me an ip thats 67.172.xxx.xxx and i dont want that ip but hwne i directly connect to my modem i get a ip like 24.xxx.xxx.xxx and im able to change it when i have no router connected. But when i do decide to put my router back on it goes back to that 67. ip address. Is there anyway to change the ip that comes back when my router is on?

It sounds like you had the router when using a different service? You can try doing a reset on the router.
Can you get into the web based interface for the router?
What make/model router are you using?
