Greetings, Good People

I'm busy setting up old machines with Puppy Linux (really great! Worth checking out). Anyway, someone gave me a monitor which he said needs a new power supply. Here are the specs:

FCC ID: AMP JD144K
Model Number: JD144L
Ratings: 100 - 240V~ 60/50 Hz 1.3A
(Made in 1997)

I've heard all the nightmare stories of high voltages inside monitors ( potentially lethal shocks, even after being switched off for months etc  ) but it seems such a waste to throw out an otherwise perfectly good piece of gear. So...

Question: Does anyone know how to go about changing/fixing the power supply for this monitor?

Many thanks

StrictlyMartin

Yes, we have members here who repair monitors for a living, but those members were trained how to safely do that.
You cannot be trained by reading posted directions in a public forum without someone getting shocked or killed, so we have made it a point not to post such directions in the forums here, and also posting cautions not to attempt the untrained repair.

This can get Darwinian.

Also, CRT monitors are really dirt cheap today. By the time you would lay out the money for the power supply, you could more than likely have a new one for a mere pittance more.

Also, power supplies are not usually the first thing to go in a monitor. You're closing in on a 10 year old monitor and from my own experience, other components will usually belly-up long before the power supply.

My input would be to let the poor thing die in peace...rather than give it the opportunity to take someone with it...;)

So the horror stories are indeed true! I will henceforth resist the urge to tamper with the inner regions of old monitors until properly trained! Thanks for the words of wisdom ;)

By the way, the site is really great :D
