i have a netgear router with my desktop wired and my laptop connecting wirelessly. both have internet connectivity with no problems at all. i am trying to set up a home network between the 2 for file sharing, but just can't get it to work. both are running win xp pro, and i have run the network setup wizard more times than i care to think about. i have tried setting it up different ways, none have worked. anyone have any ideas, i would rather use the equipment i already have for a home network instead of getting some usb bluetooth adapters....
Which network setup Wizard did you run, wireless or wired? Make sure to run the wireless network setup wizard if they are both connecting only via a wireless connection.
Also make sure that they are in the same workgroup. You will also need to setup a shared folder as by default not everything is shared.

yeah, i've run both wizards, since the laptop is wireless, the desktop is wired. and i have already set up the shared folders as well.
wierd though, i still can't get my computers to show up in my network places folders, but i was able to manually add a folder location on my desktop in my laptop's my network places folder and connect to it. i wonder why i still can't see the computers in the workgroup though????

another thing that struck me as wierd is that i installed microsoft office on my laptop from my firewire drive thats connected to my desktop with no problems. but then when tried installing a different program that was only 148 MB install file, it kept freezing......
