Howdy all,
I want to let you all know where I have been for the last few days since it is unusual for me not to post for almost a week... I seem to be healing well and don't have any major pain, although I need to be careful about my miniature Dachshund (Buddy) jumping on my stomach since he has bruised on of my incisions a bit...
On Monday I had a gall bladder attack, Tuesday I had it diagnosed and removed and yesterday I got home from the hospital... I am getting caught up again, but my energy is limited so I am just doing a bit at a time... I will be around, but may not be posting as much for a while...

Take it easy Budfred. You'll feel a bit better soon, but don't run around when you do - this is a classic of recovery from surgery, your body says you're fine but you're not (you're just recovering glycogen levels), so just chill, and forget the computer for a while!!
Come back when you're up to it - we'll all be glad to see you :)

Glad to hear your recovering. And glad you let us know what's going on. :)

 Well at least it wasn't your other dog (Fred I assume). From your avatar it looks like he would have hurt a whole heck of a lot more. :p
Take it easy and get well soon.

Jings Budfred...
Having your gall bladder removed sounds like no small thing.
Isn't that what produces the [dark green] gall that digests the fat in your diet and makes your stools dark brown rather than putty coloured?
How will you digest fat without it?
My mother had a gall stone and it was EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL.
Anyway, I hope you recover well and thoroughly. :) :D

The way it was explained to me is that the gall bladder really doesn't do much at all that we understand at this point, similar to the appendix.... My experience was not fun, but I didn't actually have gall stones, they referred to it as "slush" and said that my gall bladder was infected or I would have been home even sooner...
The other one is Alfred and he did jump on me a bit, but only on my legs... Buddy jumps up and sits on my lap a lot and uses my stomach to push himself up and such, so he is more of a problem...
I just took Alfred for a one block walk since they want me to get some exercise each day... I was not totally wiped out, so that is good.... :)

Get well soon, and do as the doctors say. The HJT logs can wait a bit longer. Which reminds me, I seem to remember reading a while back that you were looking for new apprentices to learn the dark art of deciphering HJT logs. Was the bait taken? If not perhaps this idea needs ressurecting. I may even have a go myself.

Be a good boy, stay in bed and eat lots of ICE CREAM! :D
Glad you're up and around, hope you're back to normal soon. Surgery of any sort is kind of like an auto accident. The next day you feel like you've been kicked by 6 mules. It'll pass, but it takes a bit of time. The best anyone can tell you is get plenty rest and avoid anything strenuous...like banging your head against the wall trying to fix a computer...so take it easy for a while, we'll be here when you get recuperated.
I'm just glad you're ok. Get well soon.

Hope you're feeling better. My wife had her gall bladder removed some time ago--about 15 years ago. She is doing just fine without it. It Will take a few days to heal, but I'm sure you'll be a good as good as new in a short while. In a little while your body will get used to not having a gall bladder and will then re-boot itself. :) You'll be just fine then.

Yeah, good point, are organs hot-swappable??
:D
Gall bladder, huh? Man, I didn't even know I had one of those, much less that it could attack me! Not to brag, but I sure am glad I'm younger than most of you. Although someday I'll get old, too, and then the gall bladders will hit the fan!!
Anyway, get plenty of rest and try not to stretch too much. Surgery is only fun while you're unconscious, and after that you just want to die...

are organs hot-swappable?? http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/confused.gifDefinitely would be something best done in the shop if they could be...not user friendly like USB...
Besides, I think somebody they call an anesthesiologist turns the power off to perform the exchange. I think if they could hot-swap they'd certainly dispense with the price the knock-out artist charges...

I barely remember the knock-out part... They said we are going to put an oxygen mask over your face for a few seconds and then I woke up in my room.... :p
I didn't feel terribly sick or anything, which is different than other surgery I have had, but I had been feeling pretty miserable for about 24 hour prior to surgery and the contrast may have actually been a relief... :p
I am finding it hard to get moving today, but the weather is lovely and I will get out for at least one walk up and down the block with Alfred before it is over...

"I barely remember the knock-out part... They said we are going to put an oxygen mask over your face for a few seconds and then I woke up in my room"
When I had a small operation [in Aberdeen] they gave me an injection and asked me to count backward from ten [not a thing I can do at the best of times].
So I began counting....
10...9....8......7..........6...............Byeeee e___________________
As I went under it felt REALLY NICE. :D
When I woke up a doctor came to see me and said....
Are you the gentleman who had the Vasectomy? [Just his little joke]

The way it was explained to me is that the gall bladder really doesn't do much at all that we understand at this point,
It isn't a vital bit of kit, it stores bile and squishes it out into the GI tract when you eat something with fat in it. (bile helps to break the fatty acids down)
You will still release bile (produced by the liver) but it will take a bit longer to digest fatty food. Eating too much fat will upset your stomach for a while - so take it easy (not too much ice cream :D )
Dogs jumping on incisions is definitely not a good idea, but they always manage to find the right (wrong) spot don't they

How are you doing today? Better I hope! I wish you a speedy recovery!

I am still tiring very easily, but feel somewhat better... I got into work to pick up my laptop and send out a form to allow me to get benefits while I am recovering... I took Alfred for a 2 block walk as well as walking almost the same distance at work, so I am getting a bit more exercise...
The fat issue is kind of odd since I have been on a low fat diet for most of my adult life... The only ice cream I ever eat is fat reduced... I don't eat much meat and avoid most other fat sources... It is a bit odd that I had this problem in the first place since it is most often a high fat diet that causes gall bladder problems... That is not likely to be so much of an issue now anyway... :)

Budfred please take care and don't do anything that isn't necessary, let your body do its thing to heal you. I have had a Caesarean (20 yrs. ago lol) and I know about not doing much of anything although with a new baby it was tough. I remember also when I had my triple sinus surgery, they gave me what they called a Dorothy shot..."you are about to leave Kansas" and I remember being wheeled to the surgury room and the doors opening...but beyond that I couldn't remember a thing although the nurse told me I was talking and making jokes in the operating room before they totally put me under. Ah the wonderful miracle of anesthesia!
Anywho, I am glad that you are ok and back to helping us, the clueless :D

Budfred, Hope you are doing better. It has been said many times already but please take it easy and let things heal. I spent a year and a half laying on the couch healing from injuries and the surgery involved. Tried to push to soon and ended up with more surgery. This of course lengthend the healing time.
Get well soon ;)

I am feeling quite a bit better and I am heading back to work tomorrow half time for the week.... I am nearly done setting up my new computer (except for the networking hassles) and have even gotten my house cleaned up a bit... The huge bruise on my side is fading quickly and I don't have any ongoing pain... Overall, I think I am doing well... :)
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone!! :) :)
