I have a HP Media Center with the stock 512 memory. Since I live in a rual area I can only get dial up. I have MSN with the dial up accelerator. If I doubled my memory, would it speed up the internet any? Thanks in advance for any replies.

No it wouldn't help speed up the internet any. Dial-up only goes so fast and there is nothing you can do to speed it up. :(

It will help your system, but not the internet.

I found using a good model external modem help speed up my connect a bit.

Well a memory upgrade could help the internt seem just a bit faster if you are really low on memory and even just loading a web page is causing the PC to start going to the swap file and thrashing around. But with 512MB I doubt this is the case unless you have some really big problems with spyware and malware, or run some large amount of programs while surfing the web.

The real answer though as mentioned is that nothing can speed up dialup service, or any other internet service. The speeds you get are determined by the data transfer protocols much more than the PC itself.

Absolutely correct, the max speed on a dialup connection must remain at 53K OR LESS on a 56K modem to keep control of the switch at the telephone company facility.
