i want to create a partition on my drive but it wont do it. WINXP HomeEdition, dell 3.06, SATA 149 GB drive. tried disk management but the option for create partition does not become selectable. tried dos prompt and select disk and create primary partition and it does not work either. Is this feature onl for XP pro or is there another way to do it? I have a clean boot and want to install my programs on a seperate partition in case of issues.

Do you have any unallocated space on the hard drive (as seen from disk management) since WinXP can only create new partitions in unallocated space but cannot resize or move existing partitions.

Also check that you can see the full 149GB since you must be running WinXP SP1 or SP2 to see drives > 128GB.

BootIt-NG from www.terabyteunlimited.com should be able to resize and/or create partitions. Dowload and Unzip and make bootable floppy or CD. Boot to the created media and cancel the first setup screen and go into maintenance mode. From there go into partition work and resize/create etc. There is a good pdf file in the download but post back if you need further help.

Backup important data before using ANY partitioning tools.
