I'm trying to put a game on an old computer of a friend of mine. He's running a pentium II with about 319 mb. ram and xp o.s. Every time I try I get cyclic redundancy check. What's that? I've gone through and tried to remove every instance of anything that even looks like it might be a previous attempt at an installation of this game but I'm missing something somewhere. What can I do with this? Anything? Get a gun? :-)

Hello vicki,
The meaning,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check
As for a fix, it mite be worth going to the game makers web site/forum.

The last time I got a cyclic redundancy message it was due to a bad CD disk. Try taking a Sharpie marker and paint a black line on the extreme outer edge of the disk all the way around.

Thank You. I'll try all of the above. I appreciate.

A crc message tells you that there is an error in a file. The absence of a message doeesnt mean that the relevant data is valid. Like PrntRhd I have mostly seen this with bad CDs, which use far more error detection than files stored on magnetic media.
CDcheck http://www.elpros.si/CDCheck/download.php might help with the diagnosis.
