What server OS are you running?

What desktop OS are you running.

My main guess is you need to "JOIN" the PC to the domain.

My first questio would be do you have administrative rights on the domain? If you don't then there is nothing you can do because you need administrative rights to add a new PC to a domain, and changing the name makes it a new pC in the eyes of the server.

If you do have administrative rights then you will need to join the PC to the domain again, and when the window pops up asking for dredentials enter an account with administrative privaleges.

Hi Erik,
Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

server & desktop OS win xp
yes I need to JOIN the pc to domain.

I do not have admin rights but user rights. We have more than 1000 PC'S on domain but this error occours in only a few cases.I have joined many PC'S on domain with user ID and Password without getting this "access denied" error.

Well that is the problem. Windows XP isn't capable of being a domain controller, you need to have a PC running Windows server 2000 or Server 2003 to have a domain. XP is a desktop OS, it can be a domain meber only on an established domain.

My bet is that you do have a domain contoller somehwere but just are not aware of it. Also there is no way to join a new PC to a domain without proper administrative credentials on the domain controller PC. If you were able to do it before it was probably a PC that already had established a trust with the domain controller.

Talk to the network administrator about getting the PC back on the domain, that is pretty much the only way to go.
