So uh. I'm having this same problem now. BOught a new PSU, didnt fix anything. With the CPU in the computer shuts off after 2 seconds, with it out, the computer actually stays on, but doesnt do anything. just sits there, for obvious reasons.

I'd take a guess and say it was the CPU. anyone else able to confirm this?

Hello kathemius and Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
Although this is a very similare problem as yours, and recent enough, it is best if you start your own thread so as not to cause any confusion between your problem and King Koopa's
Feel free to do this now and we will be happy to help. Please be sure to post your system specs in as much detail as you can ;)

did you swap motherboards? or did you take your CPU off the motherboard? If you did then it means that u need more thermal paste added to it.

I dont know if this could be the problem but i am going through the same problem with yours and ur right. its not the PSU and people told me i need more thermal paste between the CPU and heatsinker

try that. if thats not the problem. then it might be a short circuit on the motherboard.

Like Lord Gene said, get your hands on a new motherboard, it might be costly but it might be the only way to repair your computer...

What happens when you turn the PC on with the CPU in place? Did you use thermal grease in the proper manner when installing the CPU? We will need some more details to try and help, just that the computer won't work without a CPU isn't much help.

Generally the only way to test a CPU is install it in another board that supports it and power it up.
