Stuck!

Hi, I am unable to get past the Win XP "boot screen". I get to the screen where I am asked to "Start normaly" or "Last known configuration....." but I keep running into the screen I mentioned above. I tried to tart in safe mode but, I can't do that either. The pc was a sort of Hand-me-down so I don't have any of the Windows XP cd's that came with it. I tried making a Windows xp boot floppy but that didn't work.I've heard installing/uninstalling software can cause this to happen. The last program I uninstalled was a trial version of Window Washer.Any hope? Thanks.

I am running Windows xp (SP1). I have a 1.7ghz processor.

If you cant get in to attempt a system restore for example and dont have an installation CD or other method of reinstalling/repairing there may be little else you can do short of going out and buying your own retail installation CD and repairing the current installation.

I sort of had a feeling thta may be the case. As I mentioned in my post the pc was a hand-me-down, so I may just need to face the fact that I just need to break down and buy a new pc. Thanks!

i'm afraid you have a problem with your hardware....
because in the past i had the same problem as you are....
then i found if there was a problem with my graphic card...which was overheated....
i'm suggesting that you're cross checking your hardware...replace the broken one...and keep the rest
