I have a storage room, actually a conference room, with documents stacked up to the ceiling. I want to scan the files and write them to CD. I have a plextor CD writer, and now I need a scanner to enter the data onto the hard drive. I need a scanner that is fast, that can be fed from a tray, and is easy to use.

oo Please advise if anyone has tackled a similar problem.
oo How many 8.5 x 11 pages will fit on one cd?
oo What kind of scanner do I need?

You will probably find a lot of information in the product review sites at Cnet, ZDNet, or Computer Shopper. If your system already has SCSI capability, I'd get a SCSI scanner, but if not, go with USB. It's difficult to guesstimate your second question without seeing the docs -- it depends on the amount of "white space" and graphic content on a page. You can also compress the files after scanning, either in related groups or individually, with a program like WinZip, before burning to CD. You should also decide if you will keep the paper originals after you have scanned them. Remember the scanned image is not editable in word processing programs unless you convert it with an OCR program, which can have varying levels of success, depending on the clarity of the original. Lots of luck. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
