View Full Version : Logisys remote panel trouble

I just got a Logisys remote multifunction panel, and I can't get it to control the power to my computer. The biggest problem is that the kit comes with a 20-pin PSU adapter, but I have a 24-pin. Also, the cables for the case power swiches are not compatible with the switches on my case. uhh... can I call in some help frome my good friend i an not a nerd ? Anyone else too.

ouch! Uh, well I never had any problems with compatability for mine...

I'll think about it some more and get back to you later (i'm at school at the moment).

Can I use a 24-to-20 adapter to go into the panel connector and then use a 20-to-24 to go into the mobo? Or will that screw me over?

Hmmm that should work... Then again i'm not the most knowlagable when it comes to PSUs. I would wait for someone like Saph to answer before trying.

When you say that the power switchs are not compatable, is that with how it connects?

Not exactly. The panel routs the switch cable through itself then to the switch (theoretically, but the pins in my switch won't come out). I thought that's how it worked, but I wired it just into the panel and no power :(

I'll do some work on it this afternoon and see if I can't get it working. Wish me luck, and I hope Saph sees this about the PSU deal.

When you say that the pins won't come out, is it that the switch pins don't come out of the motherboard? You may have to make your own connecter to get it working. (As in clipping off the current one and then manualy wiring it to the Panel.)

The pins come out of the motherboard, but not out of the switch itself. I may end up having to solder the new pins straight onto the switches. I'm gonna go and mess around with the computer this afternoon and see if I can't get it working without having to do that. I think the problem may be that the PSU isn't giving the plug that I use any power while the computer is off. If the other plug like it works, I'm set...

Be careful when soldering, you don't want any of the hot metal to drop somewhere onto other chips and then blowing it apart when you start up!

I can't do it anytime soon, as I don'd have access to a soldering iron (boarding school really sucks for PC-modders). Also, I would pop the swich out and then solder the extra leads. Heaven forbid that any solder drips inside the computer... :eek:

Didn't get a chance to mess around with the panel yesterday, cuz I was exhausted somehow after half a day of school and hitting a bucket of golf balls :confused:. Sometime, I'll get to fiddling with it, hopefully during the weekend. BTW, the rest of the install went pretty much flawlessly. The CCFLs are in, 4 OF THEM :eek: and they are all connected to a sound controller so they go with the beat :D. I have already gotten OOHs and AAHs galore, even from people that refer to me as "that computer f@&", which is suprising enough. You shoulda seen the look on their faces when I dragged a mid-tower into my room :D

I just don't see why the panel isn't working without the PSU cable attached. Power, maybe? the actual switch wires were wired to it, but it would not turn on. Maybe some internal battery has to charge first... :confused:

Well, the PSU is the only way for it to be powered, so ya that must be it.

I will post a pic once I get a chance, but probably not until I get the panel working. What I am wondering was if the panel had to actually connected to the cable from the PSU to the mobo - obviously I can't just power it outta thin air :D

OK, i've been thinking about this some more, and it looks as if the power cable for the panel looks like the same cable that a floppy drive uses.... If you want, you can try using the cable for the floppy drive to power the panel.

Now I don't know if they use the same voltage, but the manuel says that the panel uses "5VSB DC, and 12VDC". I don't know what a floppy drive uses, but I'm gonna PM Saph and see if he knows.

That's what I HAVE been using. From what I can tell, it does not give power/enough power to the panel when the computer is off. No, that can't be it, because the reset doesn't work even when the computer is on. It must have the wrong voltage, and judging by how high the temps are on the front, I bet it's overvolting :eek:
