I'm planning to replace my aging Athlon 1100 gateway. I have used this machine to burn dvd's, music cd's etc, have done a bit of off cable tv capturing using an ATI TV wondercard, and I'd like to go further with the pc/entertainment integration, but frankly I'm a bit fuzzy on what is even possible, let alone what I need to accomplish what I would like. Ideally, I would like to be able to use the pc as a "TIVO", record programs & then play them from the pc to the tv a short distance away in another room, preferably using a wireless link with remote control, such as the RF Link AVS-5811 5.8 GHz Wireless Audio/Video Sender/Receiver . In a perfect world, I would like the pc to automatically skip through commercials, as my 2 vcr's with "commercial advance" do. I'm sure this is a technical possibility & it seems like a no brainer to me in terms of desirable features, but I know TIVO (my inlaws have one) does not do this. One aspect of this whole thing that confuses me is if & how you can integrate your cable box into the pc's recording capability (how would the pc access the "premium" channels like HBO? If you simply run the output of the cable box into the pc's tuner card, how would the pc change channels?). I would also like to be able to play .avi's, mpeg's, streaming video etc obtained via download on the remote TV. As I said, I'm a bit fuzzy on the details  Can anyone recommend an especially good online source of introductory info into all this? My searching has not turned up much that would pull all the variables together.
TIA
