Generally most people here would go against any power supply that comes preattached to a case unless it's one of the well known brand. I'm not so sure about the Aspire 420w but definitely do not get the 500w. It's really a 422w. Also if you look at one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?image=11-217-009-14.jpg,11-217-009-01.jpg,11-217-009-02.jpg,11-217-009-03.jpg,11-217-009-04.jpg,11-217-009-05.jpg,11-217-009-06.jpg,11-217-009-07.jpg,11-217-009-08.jpg,11-217-009-09.jpg,11-217-009-10.jpg,11-217-009-11.jpg,11-217-009-12.jpg,11-217-009-13.jpg&CurImage=11-217-009-10.jpg&Description=JPAC%20512%20BATTLE%20BK%20Black%20Ste el%20ATX%20Mid%20Tower%20Computer%20Case%20500W%20 Power%20Supply%20-%20Retail) of the picture newegg provides, you will see that the total output is 500w MAX. So if at anytime your system reaches(or get close to) it will shut down and who knows what else will happen.http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/eek.gif As for PCI-E x16 and PCI slots they are NOT the same.

Welcome to The PC Guide Forums

The Aspire X-Dreamer II would be a good case for now, but for future upgrades the Power supply would need to be replaced.

Did you read the reviews for that Jpac case it is junk and I wouldn,t put that power supply in a Dell

Lights on front of case are tied into power supply through twisted pair of wire which is poorly routed through hinge side of front panel access door. Upon opening, the case door actually shorted the conductors of the twisted pair together and popped the power supply in the first 30 minutes of operation (fireworks). Just as well because this power supply really isn't up to many of the tasks you might ask of it. Upgrade the power supply from the beginning and beware of the short-potential (I snipped the wires to negate the future possibility of a short)

The 20-pin connector on the power supply meant I needed to replace the power supply, which was only a minor issue.

TRASH power supply, ruined my motherboard and processor. It's a cool design, but the power supply isn't even sufficient as a temporary power supply.

power supply is garbage. didnt even use it. used a brand name supply. within one week the connector for the front lights melted and shorted. replaced the dongle and it shorts the power supply. lights do not work now, case is a fire hazzard.

Build your own computer for christmas, and the power supply dies, not even 30 minutes after i put all my stuff in my case.. so now im stuck with a really cool looken case, and no way to turn it on until friday...

Ok, what's your total budget for this upgrade? If you want a new case or just a new PSU, that can be taken care of later. But what's the total amount of money you can spend on this upgrade?

There are indeed vid card upgrades available for your system. But PCI, PCIe, and AGP slots are all entirely different. What you'll want is an AGP 8x vid card, but we need a budget first.

Here are your motherboard specs (http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=a7v8x-x) it has 1 AGP 8X and 6 PCI slots

Almost all of these AGP 4X/8X video cards (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2000380048+1069609639&Submit=ENE&Subcategory=48) should work in your system. There are 10 pages of AGP 4X/8X video cards at Newegg.

Yeah, there's a good starter list. ATI cards only, but an excellent list nonetheless.

The top link is to all of the AGP 4X/8X cards.

The other links are to ATI cards because his link was to an MSI Radeon X1600XT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 that will not fit on his motherboard.

I buy the ATI A-I-W cards for the mix of gaming performance and multimedia features.

I am not biased toward either ATI or Nvidia.

My next build will most likely have 2 Nvidia based cards and maybe an ATI TV tuner card or external TV tuner and be based on the Tyan Thunder K8WE motherboard with a Nvidia Gforce 4 Pro chipset and 2 AMD Opteron duel core processors maybe 285s if the price comes down.

AMD Opteron 285 = AMD Athlon 64 FX60

but you can install 2 of the Opteron 285s

Goodness! That's... high end! :p

I'm sure we would all love 4 CPU cores clunking away in our systems, but only a few of us would actually use all that power. ;)
