Hi guys, I need to put a wireless connection into a warehouse. I would like to ask your opnion about my setup and maybe suggest a better setup. The objective is to allow two wireless handheld scanners to roam around the warehouse scanning items and transmiting the info to the nearby AP which in turn relays the info to a computer. the warehouse is about 120ft by 40ft
I am thinking about putting two 8-port switches in series spanning longitutinally across the warehouse and have several access points branch from the switches. Would this setup achieve my objective? Thanks

Well wireless coverage will depend greatly on the WAP, transmit power, and any other types of interference in the building. So what types of AP are you thinking of using? Typical consumer level Linksys WAP54G types, or the more powerful Cisco enterprise types?

Also I don't really see the point in using two switches. It just introduces the possibility of switching loops, and the expense of an extra switch. Even if you were to have a single switch centrally located and APs at each corner your CAT 5 runs would be just fine as far as distance is concerned.

I would think that if the space is fairly open then it is probable that you could get by with only two APs. Just line them up along the 20ft mark of the width an equal distance apart from the center of the building. Should give pretty good coverage if you go for APs with good radio strength and antennas.
