upgrading video on ibm 486

i have an ibm 486 with 100mhz od chip 32mb ram windows98se. i would like to upgrade video from 1mb onboard to 8mb if possible. motherboard has one vlb bus slot which a riser card is plugged into. i already have an ensoniq sound card installed(an isa card i believe), and want to add a video card. i assume that i will have to stick with an isa type card? Any suggestions about if this is feasible and what cards are out there that would be a good match for my system.

Call the smaller, independent PC repair shops to see if they have any, even a used one. You might try something like Yahoo Classifieds, posting a "Wanted to Buy" ad. Or you could go to www.overstock.com (http://www.overstock.com) , a surplus/closeout vendor. If there are any computer flea markets in your area, that would be a good place to get one. Cheap prices (~5-$10 bucks?), may be a used card, and most likely no warranty of any kind if it didn't work. A bit of a gamble, but... Good Luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I rather doubt there are any ISA video cards with 8 mb Ram out there; however, you might find a 2 mb ....used is about your only hope for ISA...are you sure you dont have any PCI slots on the motherboard??
I dont know the reason you want to increase vid card memory...you are going to be severely limited by the Processor speed anyway + you are running Win98 which runs VERY slow on a 486. If you want speed....format the HD and put Win95 verB on it.....you will pick up about 20% speed right off the bat http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
