For those of you that know what an MS MVP is, I have just been named as one... I haven't entirely figured out all that it involves, but it gives me access to a number of resources that I haven't had before... It is in the Windows Security group....

Is that "MicroSoft Most Valued Professional"?
I seem to remember when I first joined the forums [a few years back] hearing that you had been awarded something like this by Microsoft.
Is this a new step higher?
Congratulations; well deserved! :)

That is close, it is Most Valuable Professional... I have never received a computer award before... Maybe you are thinking of when I was appointed to Boot Camp Moderator which is basically what this award is for....

Well done Budfred! No matter what people (including most of us on the forum) think of MS, There aren't too many MVPs around - they don't dish this award out like sweeties!

First you get your gallbladder taken out and now this award.... Hmm...Wait, was M$ responsible for that, too!? Brings up a good point, though. Would M$ do better or worse if they ran the US HMO's?... Hmmm...
Wow, that's quite the achievement. I sometimes wonder how you can keep track of all that spyware/malware $hit. Drives me nuts, I know that! How on earth did you get that recognition, anyway?

Some of the people I trained were made MS MVP in the last round and a couple of the people I work with thought that I should be too, so they nominated me...
The only way to keep up with the malware is to read about each new infection that comes out and try to remember where to find the info you need if you run into one... Probably similar to what you do with hardware, but maybe not quite so memory intensive as that... I am amazed that you can keep up with the hardware since it is even more diverse than the malware... The malware falls into just a few main groups usually....

Eh, hardware is easy for me. Spyware/malware isn't. Maybe it's just a difference in thought processes.
That's cool, though, that they nominated you like that. I never would have guessed that you had to be nominated or anything. Must be really difficult to get then, huh?

Well you are supposed to have made some fairly substantial contributions in an area that MS values... There are about 100 active MVPs in Windows Security, so it isn't a small group... The appointment lasts a year, but some people get renewed for more years...

Wow, cool. That's a very interesting achievement. Quite unlike a straight-up cert. Very interesting...
