Greetings.....this is my first post here (I've been a member for a few months)

Anyone here know why I would start getting Error 678 ....which basically says that my server must be down.....when I try to connect to the internet? I've had to hook up my old comp. to connect, so I know it's not my server----I'm connected.
When I click on my desktop icon (which I have always done)....I get a window that states, Connecting Through WAN Miniport (PPPOE) ..... it hangs here for a bit, then tries to reconnect....but nothing happens. I tried deleting that network, and created another PPPoE connection ---- but I keep getting the same message.
In my network connections window I have the following:

Local Area Connection 2
Connected
nVidia vForce Networking

1394 Connection
Connected
1394 Net Adapter

And under Broadband I have the connection I created----it will show 'Connecting' when I click it...but it will not connect and I get the Error 678

Nothing has changed in this set up......it worked last night, and this afternoon------this was sudden. I have no virus, no malware........at least not with the programs I ran ( Trend Micro, Spybot S&D, AdAware, Yahoo antispy, V-com antispy......... I run Spyware Blaster --- I have never had any funky things happen to my computers in any way....
For the past few weeks, I started to get 676 message (line busy....??) but then it would connect after a few tries. Now it's 678.

I hooked up this old WinMe comp and I connect right away.......can someone help me, or guide me in resolving this?

The messed up comp is WinXP Pro SP2......all updates
I can NOT stand this WinMe computer.....lol.
Regards, Mark

You connect via DSL with PPPoE. The software is very buggy. It's time to contact your ISP or you can try with a router. It could also be the user name and password are wrong on the XP box.

Thank you for your response. I'll contact my ISP. I'm totally ignorant on setting up with a router. I'll hook up the computer in question and double-check the user name and password.
