We have an HP a744x system that has no AGP slot. Can we use a PCI (not PCIe) vid card in it? Physically I know it would fit, but would the system recognize it without a problem?
Thanks.

Generally speaking, yes, a PCI vid card would work fine. The system should recognize an expansion card right away as the new video device.

Ok. Thanks again. Our main reason for this was to run Sims 2. Can a PCI vid card handle Sims 2?

Defintely ur HP PC will work with the video card designed to be installed on the PCI Slot. It should absolutely give u no problem. I have a similar card on my pc. And what is Sims 2 ? ? pardon my ignorance !!

Sims 2 is a simulation game...

It should work as long as you get a vid card that meets the requirements (http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=21). And of course more powerful vid cards will give you better performance in the game. For a starting point, I would recommend a Radeon 9200 or GeForce FX 5200.

Got the FX5200 and it was recognized by the computer. The owner took it home and was going to try it with Sims 2. As far as I know, everything went ok.

Sweet! Glad to hear that the upgrade went well. Or at least so far. ;)
