Internal Modem, not a Winmodem?

Just wondering, are there any 56K internal modems that are NOT winmodems?

Yes, most of them are ISA modems, a couple of PCI modems are hardware, ActionTec (http://www.actiontec.com/products/modems/cwi/cwi_overview.html) makes one. You'll see that it is a controller based modem and is supports just about every OS, signs of a hardware modem.
