Based on your experience/opinion, which is the next AMD CPU I should get to upgrade my current Duron 700 in order to have a noticeable speed increase without spending an arm and a leg? I was thinking any Athlon should make a big difference due to the higher cache memory, but which speed would you buy?
thanks

hi http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
definately go with the T-Bird - I love it. As for the speed, I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.
Mine is 800Mhz and is said to be able to safely go over 1Ghz. ( I haven't tried cause it's actually fast enough for me as it is) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

To notice any appreciable difference between the Duron you now have I think you would need to go to a 900 mhz or better Tbird chip. You can buy a 900 for about $150 or less right now. The actual difference between the two chips (Duron & Tbird) is somewhere around 15% or so at the same cpu speed.....which would be a big deal if you were talking about a P-166......but not at the speeds we are going today...hard to really tell much "real" difference on programs when you get above 6-700 mhz regardless of cache......as long as you have at least 128 mb Ram.
