Hello everybody!

I just recieved an AMD K62-233 system, and compared to the rest of "my" collection that is pretty state of the art. The only problem is that its in a Compaq Pressario 2246. This machine (motherboard) is limited in it's ability to be upgraded, and has no available expansion slots.

My questions are:

What motherboard(s) would be a good replacement for the original?

What are the limitations, or flaws of the K62 processor?

I dont do anything real intensive with my machines, such as games, but I do have a home network. Case form factor is not critical, because I have several cases. Any recomendations would be appreciated.

The K6-2 series started with a 300+ processor I believe...are you sure it's a K6-2 or maybe just a K6-233. In either case, you wouldnt want to buy a motherboard for that chip......the cost of the mobo would be too great to justify it (as in $80+) and the chip is worth about $25. Additionally, the mobo you would buy would handle only up to a K6-2 550 which is the end of the line for Socket 7 type cpu's....not a lot of headroom + by the time you wanted to upgrade to a 550, they might not even be available. Socket 7 chips are almost out of production (certainly will be by 4th Q this yr). I would just use it "as-is" myself and save up for a Athalon or Pentium system as the next purchsase.
