Hi!

I received my new-to-me computer yesterday, a Dell Precision 420, and there's an odd ticking noise coming from inside the case. It sounds like the rhythmic ticking noise an electric fencer makes when it's pulsing a hot wire fence.

The computer traveled from California to my home here in NY. Is it possible something was jostled during the trip? Any ideas where I should look once I figure out how to operate the clamshell design of the case?

Thanks in advance! :)

Yes it could have received a knock during shipping.

Contact Dell tech support and/or customer services and get advice from them.

Can you get into windows and use the pc ?

*blushes*

Thanks for your response, Jiggy....I found the source of the ticking....the speaker jack was plugged into the wrong plug. Duh!

*goes off mumbling to self

Hockey man, the source of the problem wasn't Dell in this case...it was the operator...sometimes you have to be smarter than the cable. :)

I have a Dell at work, and for whatever reason (maybe because it's my machine and it likes me), it's the only rock-solid machine in the whole facility...the others (non-Dell) have problems on a regular basis.
