View Full Version : Choosing A Hard Drive

I need to buy a hard drive to transfer all my data from my current hard drive so I could format it.

1) Does it make any difference whether I use an external or internal hard drive? Will I be able to "fit" the internal hard drive inside the desktop without removing the current one and then connect them so I could transfer data from the current one to the new one? Or do I need an external hard drive for that?

I've been searching for hard drives all over the net and look what I've found:

2) I was wondeing if there is something about these hard drives that I'm ignorant of that makes them so unbelievably cheap? Or are they really low-price and great quality? I'm skeptical of the latter so if anyone can tell me what I'm missing out on, please tell me. Also, what makes these two different? What's the difference between an Ultra ATA-133 interface and a Serial ATA-300?

Thanks A LOT for any help I get on this.

I am getting 404 errors on both those links.

An Ultra ATA-133 (PATA) uses the traditional 80-pin flat cable. The Serial ATA 300 is the second generation new style interface with small connectors just for SATA drives.

What does the computer you are looking to upgrade use?

As for if you can fit it the only real way to know is by opening the case and looking to see if there is room for an additional hard drive, and if there are any connections left for it. If you have detailed computer specs we might be able to tell from that, but looking always works for me.

I used AIDA32 to gather info on my personal comp.

I split the report because it exceeded the maximum size limit.

Nevermind, guys. I already bought it. I do have extra space for one more and the guy at customer service said the type fits every desktop PC.

How do I delete this thread? I don't see the edit icon.
